“Early foundation”- Lampard sheds light on Chelsea’s UCL glory following first sacking

Frank Lampard reveals he would never take credit for Chelsea Champions League win in 2021

Frank Lampard claimed that Thomas Tuchel should receive credit for leading Chelsea to the Champions League trophy in 2020–21, despite his ambition to have been the one to do so.

Lampard, who was fired in 2021, has been named Chelsea’s interim manager for the conclusion of the current campaign as the club continue their hunt for a permanent manager.

His first tenure as permanent manager was respectable but underwhelming. He guided the Blues to a fourth-place finish and the FA Cup final in the 2019–2020 season.

Yet after a run of unsuccessful performances that saw the former midfielder leave. His replacement, Tuchel ended up guiding the Blues to the Champions League title.

While Lampard is once again on the hot seat at Chelsea, he has the chance to atone for his previous tenure and could guide the Blues to a Champions League victory.

In the last eight of the competition, the team will take on Real Madrid on Tuesday night. Lampard responded in the affirmative, (h/t Mirror), when pressed that summer if he felt conflicted about the Blues winning the Champions League under Tuchel:

“Yeah, you work towards something; you want to be there; you want to be the manager. I’ll never try to lay claim to that. I was part of the early foundation, potentially, but Thomas did a fantastic job getting them there.”

As the Blues were barred from the transfer market when the 44-year-old took over as manager, Lampard had few resources and was only allowed to carry out what he could.

When his strategy produced results, he was sacked, and Tuchel replaced him with a philosophy that helped Chelsea rebound and win the European crown.

But now that he is in his second stint as interim manager, he has a chance of making things right, which will even eclipse his prior poor stint at Everton. Hopefully, the club icon can redeem his reputation as a manager.
