“Saw the headline”- Lampard provides the scoop on Todd Boehly-James Cordon connection behind his return

Frank Lampard is unaware if James Corden urged Todd Boehly to appoint him as Chelsea interim manager

Frank Lampard has revealed that he was unsure whether this was the case when questioned about if James Corden urged Todd Boehly to re-hire him as Chelsea boss.

Chelsea have appointed Lampard as an interim manager until the end of the season as they look to find a permanent manager for next season. Nevertheless, it is believed that the English comedian is a close friend of the American businessman and recommended that Chelsea owner Boehly and Co. appoint Lampard as interim manager.

But the former midfielder’s time at Chelsea began with a disappointing loss to Wolves, and on Wednesday night, they will play Real Madrid in the Champions League’s last eight.Focus should now shift to the field ahead of the titanic fixture.

However, (h/t Mirror), when Frank Lampard was questioned about whether James Corden’s recommendation led to his selection, he responded:

“I saw the headline about James Corden, and I am absolutely unaware of whether it’s true or not. It’s obviously a great headline to put together casually from the outside. When I look at the success of Todd Boehly and the owners of Chelsea Football Club, I think you have to respect that success and respect the idea that they’ll make decisions based on more than a conversation with one person.”

It is unquestionably true that they wouldn’t have chosen Lampard based on just one idea. Boehly knows what he is doing and has a great hierarchy that can guide his choice of the ideal Chelsea manager.

Evaluating hiring a manager is a very challenging task since you have to examine the club’s position and whether he can bring about improvements and bring the fractured club back together.

Since the season is coming to an end and the Blues owner will be under pressure to turn things around, he may have assumed that appointing a permanent manager might prove to be a mistake. Therefore, appointing an interim manager who is familiar with the club inside and out could result in minimal changes until the permanent manager is named.
