“My focus is on Roma” Serie A ace rebuffs talk of making PL return with Chelsea

Former Chelsea star Tammy Abraham wants to continue at AS Roma

When asked about a possible transfer to Chelsea, Tammy Abraham replied that he doesn’t know what the future holds and that for the time being, he wants to stay at AS Roma.

Under Frank Lampard, the 25-year-old was an important player who saw plenty of action, appearing in 72 games and tallying 29 goals in all competitions. It’s fair to say that his debut campaign in Blue promised much.

Abraham failed to convince the management, though and was eventually sent to Roma for £34 million under Thomas Tuchel. Abraham had a productive period in Serie A, scoring 27 goals in 53 games in all competitions.

Yet, with just seven goals from 39 appearances across all competitions this season, the England international has shown his inconsistency in front of the goal. However, he si still young and can turn things around.

Despite the club investing in elite attackers like Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Chelsea have nonetheless had trouble scoring goals. Both players are now out of favour and next summer, the club will once again be tasked with bringing in a forward.

Abraham, who has been linked with a transfer to his former team and hasn’t ruled out a return to Chelsea, was asked about coming back to Chelsea in an interview with Four Four Two (h/t Metro), and he said:

‘’Never say never in football. Right now, my focus is on Roma; I’ve no other plans. Maybe I’ll stay at Roma for the next ten years, maybe not. You never know.’’

Given that Chelsea needs a solid striker who can score goals every season, bringing Abraham who is not a steady goal-scorer does not make logical sense. Surely we need someone more prolific.

Abraham isn’t that kind of a consistent striker either, considering he only had one successful season at Roma and that this season, in 39 appearances across all competitions, he has only scored seven goals.

So, it would be preferable for him to stay in Serie A. Moreover, paying €80 million for him would not be wise. With that money, we could get a striker who is more productive and scores goals consistently.
