A View From The Bridge

Emmanuel Petit gives major reason why Zinedine Zidane will not become Chelsea manager

Emmanuel Petit explains why Zinedine Zidane won’t become next Chelsea manager

Speaking to Stadium Astro (h/t Metro), former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has revealed why Zinedine Zidane will reject the chance to take over the managerial job at Stamford Bridge.

After sacking Graham Potter on Sunday, Chelsea are in search of a new permanent manager. They are closing in on appointing club legend Frank Lampard on an interim basis till the end of this season.

This appointment will give them time to properly go through the process of appointing a manager who would come in the summer and take over proceedings permanently.

Talking about the possibility of Zidane being in the mix, Petit has made it clear that the French great won’t be accepting any offer from Chelsea. Here’s what he said (h/t Metro):

“Zidane, he won’t come, definitely. You know why? Because he’s not speaking English.

“I’ve known Zidane for ages and the way he manages players, he’s very close to his players, he always talks to his players. He wants the communication to be a priority for him, it’s very important for him.”

That is quite a definitive explanation from Petit. We have seen Zidane being close to his players when he was managing Real Madrid. He was almost like a big brother to them in the Spanish capital.

If we look at the options Chelsea have, Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are being talked about. The former has been contacted by French champions Paris-Saint Germain as well.

Once Lampard takes over the interim role, the club won’t be under immediate pressure to finalise their process for permanent manager appointment.

Both Enrique and Nagelsmann have their pros. The former is a far more experienced manager with a Champions League title to his name along with other domestic trophies in Spain. He has managed the Spanish national team as well.

The latter, on the other hand, is one of the best young coaches in the world. Although he was sacked by Bayern a few days ago, he remains a man with the magic touch.

Whoever it is, let’s hope Chelsea make the right decision this time and then stick with that choice for a while.
