According to journalist Dean Jones, Noni Madueke needs to be more consistent if he wants to play more often at Chelsea.
Since joining Chelsea in the January transfer window from PSV Eindhoven, the 21-year-old hasn’t featured considerably. Chelsea invested £30 million to purchase Madueke after his stellar season at PSV when he scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 80 appearances.
Due to Chelsea’s abundance of players, Madueke has only played 182 minutes of Premier League action, which suggests he hasn’t yet impressed Potter.
But his performance for England’s U-21 team, in which he scored and provided two assists, may have convinced Potter to give him some time.
Journalist Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Madueke will have to compete for a spot and maintain his consistency for increased playing time.
“He has to make sure there’s some consistency about that and he doesn’t drop off again before the end of the season. I know that Potter does like Madueke, but it’s all about getting the most out of him in the moments rather than having him manage entire games at this stage. So I think we’ll continue to only see him in short stints.”
Consistency is one thing, but he has to demonstrate that he needs more playing time. He did so on the international stage recently but to do that in the Premier League and on a consistent basis is a whole different gravy.
He is still young, therefore, it doesn’t matter if he isn’t consistent; as soon as he hits his mark, Graham Potter will consider him to be a key player. That’s why we signed him in January.
While he may not play much this campaign, hopefully, he establishes himself next season. There are a plethora of youngsters at Stamford Bridge who would be in the same boat as him. The long contracts means the club had a long-term vision in mind.
If the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Madueke, and David Datro Fofana don’t hit the ground running straight away, it shouldn’t make the higher-ups in SW6 more anxious. But next season, surely they’d want to see progress. It’s about getting opportunities, which Madueke will. He just has to be ready.
