A View From The Bridge

“There’s conversations among us”- Chelsea star tells teammates to stick together after Graham Potter sacking

Christian Pulisic issues a rallying cry for Chelsea squad till the end of this season

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic has issued a rallying cry for the squad to come together for the remainder of this season.

The Blues remain in the bottom half of the league table following an uninspiring goalless draw against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The situation is tough at the moment with Graham Potter sacked on Sunday, and there is understandably a bit of uncertainty around the club. Frank Lampard is talked about as an option to take over the interim job till the end of this season. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are in the running to be appointed permanently.

Talking about the current predicament and issuing a rallying cry, here’s Pulisic (h/t Football.London):

“It’s a tough situation for a lot of people. It’s just been changing in general in the club this year. Now with the manager out, it’s a new challenge and the guys are just trying to stick together the best we can.

“There’s conversations among us, yeah. It’s just about coming together. We still have stuff to achieve this season and that’s what we’re going to do.”

There is frankly nothing to play for in the remaining league games, but the Champions League is still alive. The quarter-final tie against Real Madrid is starting next week. We have seen the Blues being bad in the league and lifting this trophy before (remember 2012, anyone?)

Whoever the new manager will be in the summer, his first job would be to trim the squad. The playing staff has been swelled up with a crazy amount of signings in the last two windows.

Till then, if Lampard takes over for the remainder of this season (it looks like it), the squad must be motivated to give it their all for him and end this forgettable year on a high.

Although it was another game with no goals scored, we saw a few positive signs in the Liverpool game. The return of N’Golo Kante in midfield gave the impetus to be dominant in that department, while Joao Felix looked sharp again without scoring a goal. Kai Havertz though remains a worry as the number nine of this team.

It remains to be seen whether the departure of Potter would galvanise this group of players to do something special in the next few weeks.
