Chelsea target Robert Sanchez free to leave Brighton in the summer
According to Talksport (h/t Metro), Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who is a Chelsea target for the summer, is free to leave the Seagulls at the end of this season.
Along with the Blues, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the Spanish international. Spurs have Hugo Lloris, but the Frenchman has struggled for consistency and his contract is expiring next summer (Transfermarkt).
Chelsea, on the other hand, have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in their ranks, but we might not see them in the blue colours next season. The latter’s future is up in the air following the rejection of a new contract which he deemed as disrespectful. The former’s future may depend on who the next permanent manager of the team is.
Sanchez has been an excellent stopper for Brighton until recently when Roberto de Zerbi replaced him with Jason Steele in goal. The latter has done well in the brief number of appearances so far.
The Spaniard’s contract at the Amex Stadium expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). He is valued at around £28m, but it will be interesting to see whether he wants to leave Brighton when they have a better chance of playing European football next season compared to the likes of Chelsea.
With regard to his attributes, Sanchez is an excellent shot-stopper who likes to play the ball out with his feet. For a possession-based team, he could be a perfect fit, just like he was at Brighton under De Zerbi and previously Graham Potter.

If Chelsea get an opportunity to sign him, it would be a great buy for the price quoted above. It won’t be easy though as Spurs may go hard for him as well.
