Out-of-favour Chelsea star ready to slash his wages by 50% to join Barcelona

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is willing to cut his wages to join Barcelona from Chelsea

After a rocky start at Chelsea, striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is prepared to accept a 50% pay cut to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The 33-year-old had a standout second half of the 2021-22 season with Barcelona, (h/t Sport) scoring 13 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions and inspiring Chelsea to sign him.

After Romelu Lukaku’s signing proved to be a mistake, Chelsea bought the Gabonese striker in the previous summer window in the hopes that he would help them with their goal-scoring problems.

Prior to Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal, the ex-Arsenal player was reunited with the German coach, and under Graham Potter, the 33-year-old hardly appeared in any games.

In 13 appearances for Chelsea this season, Aubameyang has notched a goal only once, and the Blues are now looking to offload him in the summer transfer window.

And he was spotted celebrating with the Catalans’ players following Barcelona’s win over Real Madrid 2-1 in La Liga.

It is now known that the Gabonese striker would much rather play for Barcelona for less money than continue to represent the Stamford Bridge outfit. The salary cap at Barca, though, has already forewarned him and others around him that he will need to put up a significant financial effort.

Since the Blues may not want him to be on their books for too long, considering he has been unsuccessful, scoring only once in 13 games, it is of little concern to us that he is willing to move to Barcelona for lower pay. Additionally, the club’s compensation structure will be more equitable after his departure.

And since Barcelona’s finances are in such shambles, we should set a fair asking price before selling him so that we may benefit enough from his departure. It could actually work in our favour – selling an out-of-favour player instead of potentially losing him on a free transfer.

More Chelsea News:

It would seem hard to bring other clubs to the negotiation table given the former Borussia Dortmund forward’s poor form, but we should be able to milk Barcelona for some money here. At least that is what the fans will want from a signing that has given them almost nothing to be happy about.
