Chelsea star on Liverpool’s radar resumes contract talks with owner Todd Boehly

Mason Mount resumes talks with Todd Boehly regarding his contract renewal at Chelsea

Despite interest from numerous Premier League teams, Mason Mount is reportedly in contract renewal discussions with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.

The discussions between the two sides were put on hold nonetheless, as Mount demanded a pay rise of up to £250,000 per week for committing his long-term future to the Blues.

Although the negotiations over his new agreement are only up to a one-or two-year extension after he rejected the board’s first proposal of a seven-year contract.

Liverpool are in serious need of the 24-year-old, but their efforts have been severely hampered by Mount’s considering signing a two-year extension to his current contract.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle are all said to be monitoring the status of the negotiations, although the England international’s contract expires in 2025.

Due to an abdominal injury, the midfielder has featured in fewer games this season, making only 24 appearances while contributing three goals and two assists.

Hopefully, the two sides can reach a compromise since Mount, one of the best players to emerge from the Chelsea youth academy, might play a different position under the new manager the following season. He is versatile enough to play anywhere in midfield and down the flanks.

Two years may seem like a short deal for Mount, but by the time he completes them at the age of just 24, he will have gained more experience. It is important that we keep academy graduates like him at the club. It is a part of our identity and despite being very young, Mount has a lot of knowledge of the club which can aid the youngsters around him.

More Chelsea News:

It’s preferable to retain him here for an additional season rather than watch him thrive for a rival team. It would be akin to seeing Reece James leave Stamford Bridge or Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Liverpool… you just don’t sell your academy graduates who are destined to become something special. If you do, it is something you can live to regret later on.
