Chelsea earmark PL rival as potential Graham Potter replacement

Chelsea list Marco Silva as one of the candidates to replace Graham Potter

Chelsea have identified Fulham manager Marco Silva as a possible successor for Graham Potter at the club as per the Daily Mirror.

Todd Boehly appears to be impressed with Silva’s job at Fulham. The Spaniard has led the Londoners to the Premier League and they look set to finish in the top ten. The 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at the weekend saw Chelsea fall to the 11th spot, ending Potter’s reign at Stamford Bridge.

Potter, who took over for Thomas Tuchel had a promising beginning to his new life at Stamford Bridge. But things quickly went south under him as the team suffered its 12th loss in 31 games. That was clearly the last straw for the Blues management.

There is a list of potential replacements for Potter as Chelsea’s manager. Julian Nagelsmann, the former manager of Bayern Munich, is the favourite to replace the 47-year-old.

Silva has been instrumental in guiding Fulham to Premier League promotion and the top half of the league standings. Before taking over at Craven Cottage, Portuguese manager Silva, 45, spent time with Everton, Watford, and Hull City.

Until Chelsea names Potter’s successor, Bruno Saltor will serve as the interim manager Considering the Blues will probably select a new manager was given the importance of their next games against Liverpool on Tuesday and Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

We need to evaluate the situation before choosing a new manager. Silva seems like a good manager, but he cannot guarantee consistent victories. Even if Chelsea signs him, he will have to manage a large squad and a few prominent personalities, which he might not have been able to handle at Fulham given that his side competed in the Championship.

This is what occurred with Potter: he had a lot of signings on his plate and was pressed for time; his demeanour in the dugout or during the post-match conference wasn’t striking for a manager. Clearly, his luck had to run out at some time.

Hence, we will need to hire a manager who is familiar with prominent teams and players and who could implement his principles at Chelsea.
