The left-back’s contract will expire in 2025, (Transfermarkt) and Chelsea are eager to try and lock him down to a longer one in order to stave off interest.
Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has been an admirer of Chilwell and could have made a move for him If his Chelsea contract was still in doubt.
Despite missing half of the season due to a hamstring injury, Chilwell has continued to perform to a high standard resulting in the owners giving him a new contract.
The England international has made 19 Premier League appearances and has netted two goals and provided three assists. Chelsea, which is experiencing a challenging period at the moment, fired Graham Potter and named Frank Lampard as their temporary manager while they searched for the perfect leader for the upcoming season.
The Blues, who are currently in 11th position in the Premier League, will play Real Madrid this week in the eighth round of the Champions League.
The supporters have finally received some good news with Chilwell’s potential extension of his contract. Since joining the team in 2020, he has been pretty good and has continued to play a key role at the back.
However, he has been injury prone, having played in 80 games for Chelsea since his arrival in 2020, which could be a worry. But with the signing of Marc Currella, this shouldn’t pose an issue given we have sufficient depth at left-back.
