Chelsea in talks to appoint Frank Lampard as the interim manager till end of season

As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in concrete talks to appoint club legend Frank Lampard as the caretaker manager till the end of this season.

The Blues are searching for a new manager after sacking Graham Potter on Sunday. They are in talks with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique for the permanent role.

But, the report suggests that a new manager will be appointed for the future project. With only a few games to go till the end of this season, they might get Lampard in to do a job for the time being.

Lampard was recently sacked by Everton after an underwhelming start to the season there. He did well after coming in place of Rafa Benitez last season but things unravelled quickly this time around.

The same happened when he previously took charge of Chelsea in 2019. The first season with young players and a transfer ban went well and the Blues finished in the top four. However, things went awry in his second season after spending massively in the transfer window.

So, there is a pattern in his management where there is a bounce in the first few weeks or months before going pear-shaped.

Chelsea are contemplating making Frank Lampard their caretaker manager until the end of the season.

With only a handful of league games and a Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid to go, Lampard could be a decent option as an interim manager. He is a club legend, after all, hence we could see the Bridge happy to have him back with the knowledge that a new permanent boss will be appointed soon.

All things assumed, this sounds like a move that makes sense for now. Having gotten sacked from his previous two jobs, Lampard must be itching to have a spell where he can show what he is capable of as a manager.
