A View From The Bridge

“Raheem is coming back”- Graham Potter offers detailed Chelsea team news for Aston Villa tie

Chelsea boss offers an update on the availability of players for the Aston Villa game

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has confirmed that Mason Mount is back, while Wesley Fofana and Raheem Sterling will miss the Aston Villa game.

Mount missed a few games before the international due to a lower abdomen issue. He pulled out from the England squad due to that as well.

Fofana, who was forced off in the Everton game two weeks ago and had to withdraw from the French squad, could be okay for the Liverpool game on Tuesday, but the Villa game comes too soon for him.

The same is the case with Raheem Sterling. Christian Pulisic, on the other hand, came back from his international duty with a cold. He will be checked on before the kick-off we assume.

Here’s what Potter said (h/t Football.London):

“Well, Thiago and Azpi are still away. Raheem is coming back. He will miss the game, think he’s got more chance for Tuesday. He was close. Mason has trained and is available, probably not from the start but in the squad. Wesley is going to miss the game because his hamstring is still a little bit tight, there’s a chance for Tuesday with him. Christian Pulisic is the only one, he had a heavy cold returning from international duty so he’s one we’ve just got to check on.”

Every game from now till the end of May is big for Chelsea, irrespective of the competition. While we are far away in the league table at the moment, we have to collect as many points as possible. Wins in the league could also help in generating momentum for a key Champions League tie against Real Madrid.

The Villa game is important for two reasons. The first is the respective positions in the table. Unai Emery’s men are level on points with us. So, a win for them would push us into the latter half of the standings. Do we really want to be there?
The

The second reason being the momentum that would be required ahead of the big game against Liverpool on Tuesday. We hope that Potter and his men know about that.

The other hope is that the likes of Sterling and Fofana for the next game as their availability will not only be key for the Liverpool encounter but also the coming games against Madrid in Europe.
