Chelsea are considering re-hiring Frank Lampard as the interim manager for the rest of the season if they fail to appoint the ideal person for the role.
If the Blues were unable to find the right manager this season, Boehly may still turn to Lampard to guide them through the rest of the campaign, (h/t Metro), according to The Sun.
Lampard was seen watching from the stands as Chelsea vs Liverpool ended in a 0-0 tie on Tuesday night. The former Blues midfielder has been without a job since Everton fired him in January following a terrible run of defeats.
Graham Potter was fired last week, leaving the Blues without a manager. The leadership of the club is reportedly evaluating up to seven applicants for the role as the club looks to salvage what they can for the season.
Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique and ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann are among those in contention to take over at Stamford Bridge. Todd Boehly and co cannot afford to get their next appointment wrong.
Lampard’s first stint in command of Chelsea ended amicably after 18 months, but not before he led the Blues to the FA Cup final and saw them qualify for the Champions League. This despite the club serving a suspension that banned him from making any signings for two transfer windows.
If, however, we are unable to identify a suitable manager, we may think about using him as our temporary manager for the remainder of the campaign. Lampard has shown progress at Everton and hiring him might be more of a cosmetic decision than one that is effective.
However, having played for the club in the past, he is familiar with every aspect of the organisation and is aware of our present shortcomings. He has presided over 84 games, winning 44 of them, which is a respectable record.
As evidenced by the fact that he saved Everton from relegation last season in a relatively brief period of time, he may prove to be a solid hire in the short run.
