Carlo Ancelotti has defended Todd Boehly after he chastised Chelsea players in the locker room following the 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League at the weekend.
After Chelsea’s match against Brighton Hove & Albion, Boehly was spotted making his way to the dressing room. It was rumoured that the owner also chastised the players and termed Chelsea’s present predicament “embarrassing.”
Furthermore, it is known that Boehly targeted a certain Blues player for criticism. Chelsea will now play Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League, hoping to cause an upset to the Spanish team.
After losing by a score of 2-0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Blues will be aiming at attempting a comeback in the second leg. Given our recent run of form, it will take a miracle.
Carlo Ancelotti, though, (h/t Metro), has backed the American company and asserted that the owners have the authority to weigh in on the club’s performance. The former Chelsea manager stated this before the game:
“From the owners perspective, it could be an important motivation for the players. The Chelsea moment is not a good moment, and I think having the support of the club could inspire the players to play better.”
“I think it is a good move to do this, and if the clubs want to come and talk to the players, I have no problem, absolutely.”
Owners are undoubtedly concerned about the club since it spent a lot of money on high-calibre players during the transfer window, but if those players underperform, the owners may start to question if it was wise to spend so much money on just one player.
And if they continue to perform in this manner, their future at the club is undoubtedly in jeopardy; they will either be sold or sent on loan.
Given their high salaries and subpar performance in the games, it is legitimate to criticise the players. And like we have always heard, no player on the team is bigger than the club.
