“I have a lot of experience”- Bruno Saltor open to ‘massive challenge’ of being Chelsea’s interim manager

Bruno Saltor will be Chelsea’s interim boss until they find a manager

The interim manager of Chelsea, Bruno Saltor, stated that he is prepared to assist the young players that Chelsea have acquired during the past two transfer windows.

A 2-0 loss at Aston Villa proved to be Graham Potter’s final game as pressure reached the breaking point, forcing club owner Todd Boehly to make the call on the English tactician. The 47-year-old had been on the verge of being fired when his bad run commenced.

Just 12 victories in 31 games marked the end of Potter’s tenure, which left Chelsea in 11th position in the Premier League and no possibility of qualifying for the Champions League.

The board’s decision to fire Thomas Tuchel and the former Swansea City manager during the same season was a colossal failure under new ownership.

Poor runs were expected to have little impact on Potter’s status at Chelsea, but everyone has a limit beyond which they can no longer take it, and Boehly may have lost patience.

And until the team finds a competent manager, Saltor will remain in control for the time being. On his official Twitter account, Fabrizio Romano cited interim manager Saltor’s statements, which reads as follows:

“If I’m here, it’s because the club thought it was the right step. I spoke to the board, and they have been supportive. It’s a massive challenge. I have a lot of experience; I will try to help players, and I feel I can help the young players”.

Although Saltor will have a complex situation ahead of him, he has worked with Potter and is familiar with the challenges, so he could be capable to do what Potter was unable to. Hopefully, Saltor follows through on his promise to assist young players, as this was one thing that the Potter administration failed to accomplish.

He wasn’t really given a lot of time with the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke, to be honest. But it never really seemed like the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager was sure of his best XI and where he was going to fit in the newly-signed youngsters.

Saltor is aware of the system Potter wanted to establish but failed to do so. He could rectify the mistakes he believes the Englishman made with some ideas of his own. It could be an audition for him – a way for other clubs to gauge his potential before making possible offers.

Saltor doesn’t have a lot of experience in management but these could be the starting steps he needs to give his career a boost. He joined Brighton in June 2019 as the senior player development coach before following Potter to Chelsea in September 2022. The 42-year-old played as a right-back during his playing days and was on Brighton’s books as a player from 2012 to 2019.
