A View From The Bridge

“Very thrilled”- Chelsea ace thrilled to commit his future to Stamford Bridge

Ben Chilwell pleased to sign a new contract and commit his future to Chelsea

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell was pleased to sign a new contract and commit his future with the club. The new deal will keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2027.

What this move has done is quashed the rumours that Manchester City were interested in signing the England international.

The former Leicester City player has been an integral part of the Blues setup since signing in the summer of 2020. Mind you, City were interested in signing him then as well.

Here’s what Chilwell said after committing his future to the club (h/t Chelsea website):

“I feel very settled at Chelsea and have really enjoyed my time on the pitch here so I’m very pleased the club want me to be part of the project long-term, and am very happy to sign this extension to my contract.

“We are working hard for success and I will do my best to bring more smiles to the faces of the fans who have made me feel so welcome.”

The 26-year-old was a major part of the Chelsea side that won the Champions League in 2021 against the odds. Just as when things were going smoothly for him, an ACL injury last season hampered his progress to an extent.

He is slowly coming back to peak form and has been a key player for the Blues in the last few weeks, irrespective of the results of the team.

Chilwell is one of the best wing-backs in Europe. His ability to run up and down the field consistently to provide width to the team offensively and defensively is extraordinary.

Securing his future months after doing the same with Reece James is a great piece of business by the club. Believe it or not, fullbacks or wing-backs have become integral parts of football teams these days, unlike the days when Gary Neville used to play.

We hope that this contract extension spurs Chilwell on to produce great things for Chelsea in the coming months and years. His form would be key if they are to challenge Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League.
