Speaking on BeIN Sports (h/t Daily Mail), Arsene Wenger criticised Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly for entering the Chelsea dressing room and giving a team talk to the players.
Before the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid, Boehly went to the Chelsea dressing room to address the players, reminding them of the embarrassing position they are in and cheered them up to beat the European champions.
While the performance in the second leg was better, Madrid ran out easy winners on the night and aggregate. Before the game, interim boss Frank Lampard was asked whether he felt comfortable that an owner decided to give a team talk. Lampard was very clear in saying that he had no issues with that.
But, former Arsenal manager Wenger is not having any of it. Here’s what he said (h/t Daily Mail):
“No, I wouldn’t, that was always clear in my mind [if he would allow owner to come to the dressing room to give a team talk].
If that was not enough, the latest report in the Telegraph (Subscription Required) tells us that Boehly went to the dressing room after the Madrid game as well, but did not give any speech to the players.
Currently, almost everyone associated with Chelsea is worried for the club. With no European football next season now guaranteed after the Champions League exit, how will they manage the financial part of the equation after spending like crazy in the last two transfer windows?
Thiago Silva talked about players having an issue with a bulked-up squad, which is also making it difficult for the manager to have any sort of control.
A few weeks ago, Daily Mail did report that up to eleven players could be offloaded by the club in the summer. With no permanent manager appointed yet, we still do not know who those eleven players are. The new manager may have the final word on that.
