“It was a big shock”- Chelsea starlet opens up on his season-ending injury

Chelsea star Armando Broja discusses his worst moment after suffering knee injury

After sustaining a significant knee injury that prevented him from playing until the conclusion of the season, Armando Broja has talked about that period as being his worst.

The 21-year-old ruptured the cruciate ligaments of his right knee during a friendly match against Aston Villa in Abu Dhabi in December.

The Albanian international is back in light training, but given the severity of his injury, he won’t play again until next season. That is, of course, a huge shame as he could have hoped to have a breakthrough season with our current forwards failing to score goals consistently.

This season, Broja has participated in 12 Premier League games and has contributed a goal and an assist.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, via Evening Standard, the 21-year-old described his worst experience after damaging his knee and being unable to get out of bed.

“I still haven’t got my head fully around it. It does play on your mind. It was a big shock because I have always been quite a healthy lad and have just had a few minor injuries here and there. It was an even bigger shock to my mom and dad because they have so rarely seen me injured.”

“After surgery, I was bedridden for about two weeks. It was one of the worst times of my life. It was horrible. I couldn’t get out of bed. My mom was running around the house to get me tablets and give me food. It was a struggle. You almost feel useless. You want to be able to do stuff, but you just can’t.”

Armando Broja has played 12 games this season.

Injuries are genuinely terrible; they may ruin a player’s career and have a significant psychological impact on athletes as they attempt to recover, particularly from long-term ailments. We have seen how many player careers have been destroyed by injuries, and clubs occasionally become impatient with players who sustain injuries frequently.

But he’s not the only one; this term, a number of other players also experienced injuries that had a ripple effect on our season. Reece James and N’Golo Kante were hampered by injuries this campaign, and now James is out until the end of the season. Broja might have been our first-choice striker for this season if he hadn’t sustained that injury.

But if Chelsea decide to keep the 21-year-old for the upcoming campaign, the Albanian player could serve as a backup striker. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has clearly not impressed in SW6 while Romelu Lukaku’s future here seems uncertain. With no other natural No. 9 options, Broja can be optimistic about his first-chances when he returns from the treatment table.
