Chelsea and Graham Potter receive a significant injury boost (h/t Football.London), as they prepare to take on Leeds United on Saturday at noon. The former Swansea City manager is under increasing stress as the Blues haven’t won a game since their 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace in January.
In their last 16 games in all competitions, Chelsea have only won twice, and they are in urgent need of three points as Potter enters a pivotal week that could end up saving his career at Stamford Bridge.
After losing to Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 the previous Saturday, the West London team had a whole week of preparation prior to the match against a struggling Leeds team.
The return of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Christian Pulisic will give our squad additional depth, and Potter will need to decide whether to reshuffle our lineup for the Leeds match. The two midfielders are terrific on their day and give us immense solidity on both ends of the pitch.
Pulisic, meanwhile, is always a quality option to have with his pace and dribbling. It just remains to be seen if the trio will be fit in time to start or play a part in the game against the Whites.
Meanwhile, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta remain sidelined. The Brazilian tore his knee ligaments before being taken off in their 2-0 defeat to Spurs on Sunday.
Due to Potter’s upcoming decision over their playing time, the club is finally witnessing injured players return to training. The return of a few important players before this weekend’s game against Leeds has given the 47-year-old manager hope that he can pick up other players.
We have two important games coming up and the former Brighton & Hove Albion boss can use all the help he gets in the form of squad depth. He has to make sure that he finds out his strongest XI and start them as much as possible. Results must improve and they must improve starting now.
Given that Leeds are also having a tough time, with just one victory in their last six games, Chelsea would fancy their chances against them to finally get a run of wins going. Since the game will be played at Stamford Bridge, we may be the team where we can best display our strength with the roster we currently have.
And if we were able to win, it would greatly boost players’ mentality heading into Tuesday’s second-leg Champions League encounter against Borussia Dortmund. We need to make sure we keep our Champions League hopes alive. Winning it could be our only way to qualify for the competition next season.
