“Match of the season”- German ace cautions Borussia Dortmund ahead of Chelsea clash

Marco Reus warns Borussia Dortmund against dropping their guard vs Chelsea

The Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus has cautioned his teammates that Tuesday’s match against Chelsea is going to be the game of the season for the home team.

Despite beating Leeds United 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday, Graham Potter and his team have had a poor streak of performance and luck. The second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 matchup against their same-squad rival might still have a significant impact on the under-fire Blues manager.

Dortmund under Edin Terzic has won 10 straight games in the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League. Last Friday, Dortmund beat RB Leipzig to notch their most recent victory and keep abreast of Bayern Munich at the head of the Bundesliga standings.

Meanwhile, the Blues’ predicament stands in stark contrast given that Chelsea are now 10th in the Premier League and have a limited chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Reus is aware of the importance of the match for Chelsea, and as a result, he is aware that the visitors cannot arrive in London with the intention of merely preserving their 1-0 advantage.

Reus told the press conference that (h/t Mirror.UK), the Blues can come back from their deficit despite their current form and cautioned his teammates not to take it easy during the game.

“People know that Chelsea is not in a good moment, but in the first leg they played well, and our victory wasn’t easy.”

“Now for Chelsea, this match will be key; it is their match of the season, and that means we can expect an enormous and significant amount of pressure from the first minute.”

Reus is confident that we can pull off a victory in spite of our awful performance. We have a terrific team and the ability to surprise any opponent; all we need is the right kind of team chemistry.

Given that we just need to overcome a 1-0 deficit, our victory over Leeds United last weekend provided us with some optimism that we can hopefully build on.

More Chelsea News:

Remembering that we have experienced numerous comebacks in the Champions League—most notably, our 4-1 victory over Napoli at Stamford Bridge following a 3-1 loss in the first leg, we can hope to pull another one on Tuesday night.
