According to London World (h/t Football.London), Chelsea midfielder Xavier Simons, who is on loan at Hull City, will join the Tigers permanently at the end of the season.
Simons joined the Championship side on a season-long loan back in August. He had to wait until February for his first Championship start, after an injury to Jean Michel Seri. But, Hull are confident that he will come good, hence signing him on a permanent deal.
At the time of his departure on loan, there were a few clubs interested in his services. Norwich City, Southampton, Watford and Brighton were keeping an eye on the 20-year-old midfielder.
Simons is a versatile player who mainly operates as a defensive midfielder, but can play as a number eight and as a right-back if required.
He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities this season, but reading about the faith Hull have in him, shows that they see him as a key player in the coming years. Mind you, he is still 20 and will only get better if groomed properly.
It seems like Chelsea tend to produce top young players and loan them out, before selling most of them for good profit as well. Simons is one of those players. He will come good in the future for Hull.
If we talk about the departures, the senior team squad is bloated at the moment and needs trimming in the summer. Reports have suggested that the Blues could offload up to 11 players to help Graham Potter in having a number of players that can be managed.
It is a shame that one of our own – Mason Mount, is on the brink of leaving the club just because there is a valuation gap in a contract extension. Let’s hope that is resolved because he is such an important player for the club.
