Ian Wright perplexed by Chelsea opting against calling up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Premier League legend Ian Wright feels Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is being underutilised by Chelsea,e especially at a time when the Blues are crying out for goals.
Thomas Tuchel and Aubayemang were reunited at Stamford Bridge last summer, but the German coach was fired earlier this season. Aubameyang has since slipped down the pecking order and was omitted from Chelsea’s Champions League squad list last month.
His short surprise appearance off the bench in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the Spurs marked his first action for the team in more than a month. Given how we are struggling to score, there is no reason why we cannot use the most experienced attacker on the roster.
And former West Ham United striker can’t understand why Chelsea aren’t using the Gabonese striker more. Meanwhile, Kai Havertz, who has been used as a striker has been ineffective.
Wright claims Potter has a personal issue with Aubameyang, but he also urges the Chelsea manager to not let personal vendettas damage the team as a whole. When speaking to Premier League Productions (via the Daily Mail), Wright did not hold back and explained the 33-year-old situation at Chelsea.
”Whatever the problem is with Aubameyang… George Graham didn’t have a problem not speaking to a player for months, but if he needed him, he was in.”
‘’I don’t know what’s gone on but Chelsea need a striker, they’ve got one and he’s not playing.”
‘’You wouldn’t say it to the manager but the lads will talk about it. You’d talk to Aubameyang and say we can’t understand why you’re not playing.”
Since we don’t have a natural goal-scorer, the 33-year-old striker has seriously lost his spark and seems to be lacking confidence in his ability to score goals.
Wright could be spot on why Potter is not using the former Barcelona player. Even if he isn’t scoring goals, he can use his positional awareness in the box to draw defenders out of their positions and create room for his teammates.

It’s understandable if he doesn’t score, but because of his extensive experience as a striker, we can still use Aubameyang in another position and he can still be crucial for us.
