“Artistic player”- Chelsea urged to sell two stars to fund summer transfer for impressive loanee

Frank Leboeuf urges Chelsea to sell two players to fund the Joao Felix transfer

Speaking in the ESPN show (h/t Metro), former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has urged the club to sell Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic to fund the transfer of Joao Felix.

Felix was signed on loan from Atletico Madrid during the January window for the rest of this season. The Portugal international has made a decent start to life in Chelsea colours.

On the other hand, it is getting likelier by the day that Mount could leave the club as new contract negotiations aren’t reaching an agreement and Chelsea won’t want to let him leave for free in 2024. Pulisic is on the list of players who could be sold in the coming summer.

Here’s what Leboeuf said regarding this subject (h/t Metro):

“Joao Felix is a great player. I think he’s the most dangerous player, the most entertaining player, the most artistic player at Chelsea right now. He’s been pretty consistent too, almost every game he creates something. Hopefully Chelsea will be able to sell a few players – maybe Pulisic and Mount – and can then get Felix on a permanent.”

One would think that Chelsea are anyway planning to sell Mount and Pulisic, hence there is no need to urge them to do that.

The question is – would the club be titled towards spending big money to sign Felix permanently in the summer? A few days ago, it was revealed that the Portuguese star may cost somewhere around £70m-£80m.

We know that the Atletico Madrid loanee likes to operate in the number 10 position, or sometimes as a support striker in a two-man forward line.

Chelsea have already agreed on a deal to welcome RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku this summer. The Frenchman also likes to play in positions similar to Felix.

So, while the idea of selling the two mentioned players is right, the money gained from the sales should be put into signing a striker.

More Chelsea News:

Chelsea need a player who can find the back of the net 20+ times in a season. Graham Potter, Todd Boehly and co. must be looking at that department to bolster before making the luxury signing of Felix.
