“A club that is close to my heart”- Jose Mourinho snubs Chelsea as he picks his UCL winners this season

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho states that he wants Real Madrid to claim the Champions League title

Jose Mourinho, the former manager of Chelsea, says he wants Real Madrid to win the Champions League again, without mentioning the Blues in his answer.

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 6-2 on the road to the quarterfinals of the competition, and they will now play Chelsea in the quarterfinals for the third season in the Champions League.

Mourinho, who commanded Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, failed to guide the team to the Champions League trophy despite twice making it to the semifinals.

After taking over, Mourinho has made Roma a challenging squad that is contending for the Europa League trophy. And his side AS Roma will square off against Feyenoord in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

The Portuguese manager guided them to their first European title in more than 60 years when the Italian side won the UEFA Conference League last year.

However (h/t Mirror), after his side’s win against Real Sociedad, when asked which team he wanted to win the Champions League, Mourinho said:

“There is a club that is close to my heart, and there is a manager who is my friend. Real Madrid are great, and Carlo Ancelotti is great! Hopefully they will go on in this way to win the final.”

That is, after all, his perspective, and he may be closer towards the Spanish side. Real Madrid truly are one of the best clubs even when they are not the tournament favourites.

Mourinho has won trophies with both teams but it seems that he has a closer connection to Los Blancos and Carlo Ancelotti. Yet in the eyes of the Blues, he is still a renowned manager for them.

The Portuguese boss didn’t have the best of times with our fans, especially after he left the club and went on to manage Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur later on. Yet, fans can’t deny he was the man who really made Chelsea into the European powerhouse they are in the 21st Century. He is still the most successful manager in our history with eight trophies in 360 matches managed across two spells.
