Previously, Chelsea expressed interest in acquiring Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. It appears that the London club are currently preoccupied with resolving its own issues with the manager and players.
The 19-year-old England international has recently been linked to many Premier League teams with Manchester City and Liverpool are both interested in hiring him.
Whether Chelsea can organise their affairs before the summer transfer window is still something uncertain. Graham Potter’s future at Chelsea is also under scrutiny after a run of horrific results.
With the addition of numerous players in January, Potter has been trying to get things in order and identify a solid starting eleven for the games that can squeeze out victories.
The Blues’ season has been poor thus far, as evidenced by the fact that they are currently tenth in the standings. A team of their calibre ought to be contending for big awards. Instead, they’ll probably miss out on qualifying for the Champions League.
And well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed Bellingham as a possible destination next summer in his exclusive Substack column with CaughtOffside:
“Chelsea are busy with problems with their current players and coach, so at the moment I’m told Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are leading the race for Bellingham.
Let’s see what Chelsea will do in the next few months. It’s still March, and the market starts in June, so there’s still a long way to go. The situation now is that Liverpool, Real, and City are pushing more than others.”
It goes without saying that Chelsea will need to sign a premier central midfielder, and Bellingham could be a fantastic addition. At the centre of Chelsea’s midfield, the England international and Enzo Fernandez would make the perfect partnership – the former can be a box-to-box midfielder while the latter can be the deep-lying playmaker.
But if we want to pursue the former Birmingham player, there are a lot of things we need to concentrate on because we already have a lot of midfielders.
To avoid breaking the FFP rule, we would be wise to balance books and clean the house. N’Golo Kante could be a big name exit if he doesn’t renew his contract but a decision will also have to be taken on the long-term futures of loanee Denis Zakaria and academy graduate Mason Mount.
His signing could be a great masterstroke but given the name and number of teams in this transfer race, the Blues will know Bellingham – one of Europe’s biggest jewels right now – will neither come cheap nor easy.
