Chelsea star Kai Havertz sends a message to his team-mates after Borussia Dortmund win
As quoted by the Independent, Chelsea star Kai Havertz sends a rallying message to his teammates after beating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Chelsea beat the German side 2-0 in the second leg to progress to the quarter-final of the Champions League with an aggregate score of 2-1. Havertz scored the penalty that turned out to be the tie-clincher to raise the roof of Stamford Bridge.
With the Blues playing catch-up in the league, it is hard to believe that they will have enough to finish in the top four this season. Hence, if they have to play Europe’s finest competition next season, winning it in May is the only viable option.
Here’s what Havertz said in a message to his team-mates just after the Dortmund match (h/t Independent):
“We have to build. The last two weeks, we lost a lot of games. Today was important because we know the Champions League is an important tournament, the last one we’re in. We have to give everything for it. We showed character, showed we want to win this competition again.”
As much as Chelsea have been underwhelming under Graham Potter, they are in the quarter-final of a competition they know how to win. Remember 2012 when they were under par in the league but lifted the Champions League in Munich? That and 2021 under Thomas Tuchel come to mind.
So, if the Blues get some luck going their way, we could see them lifting this trophy for the third time in their history. But, one cannot look that far ahead at the moment.
After a pressure-filled last few weeks, it must be a relief for both Potter and the players that they are finally getting the reward for the hard work they did.

It is time to back it up with a consistent run of results though. We face Leicester City away from home in a tricky game on a Saturday afternoon. Although there isn’t much to play for in the league, making sure to finish in one of the European spots should be enough of an attraction for the rest of this season.
