From Manchester to Mastery: Cole Palmer and his stellar rise at Chelsea
Chelsea have set a price tag on Mason Mount, and it is believed that the club will seek £70 million from teams interested in signing 24-year-old midfielder Mason Mount this summer.
The Athletic (Subscription Required) has reported that (h/t Daily Mail), the Blues will be prepared to trade the midfielder in the upcoming campaign if contract negotiations don’t progress. The midfielder’s contract, which is set to expire in 2024 (Transfermarkt), has been the subject of prolonged negotiations.
Mount is admired by Liverpool and Manchester United, both of which want to buy him in the summer transfer season. Bayern Munich’s new manager, Thomas Tuchel, has also shown interest in signing the midfielder.
Tuchel is eager to work with Mount again since the midfielder was crucial to his team’s Champions League victory. Chelsea estimates that Mount’s move will bring it a significant profit of £70 million.
By spending £600 million on new players since the summer transfer window, the Blues would be eager to generate money and believes £70 million to be a sufficient price tag.
With three goals and two assists in 23 games for Chelsea, Mount is having a reasonable season. But, he hasn’t played since the Blues’ 2-0 loss to Spurs on February 26.
A striker and a holding midfielder will be Chelsea’s top priorities next summer. Given that they have been sporadic in front of goal this season, the striker remains a primary focus.
If we decide to sell Mount, this seems like a fair asking price for a player of his calibre. Given that he has been one of the club’s finest midfielders recently, it would be devastating to see the academy graduate leave the club.
And it would be even more unfortunate if he flourished with a new team in the same league. We only hope he signs a new deal, as we can’t afford to lose him right now. Regardless of an inconsistent performance this campaign, he will certainly bounce back next season, and after that, we may discuss enhancing his wages.
Moreover, he is of a proper age profile where he still has time to better himself and unfurl his potential. Then again, if any team agrees to pay that price tag, then fair deal… we can use that money to balance our books or sign a new midfielder.
