Chelsea set to welcome back first team stars ahead of Leeds United clash

Ahead of the clash against Leeds United, Chelsea have confirmed (h/t Football.London), that Thiago Silva has damaged his knee and will now enjoy a spell on the side lines.

The Brazilian defender was taken off in the 19th minute of the Blues’ Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. It now appears like Graham Potter will be without his star defender for a critical part of the campaign.

Cesar Azpilicueta, who suffered a head injury against Southampton and is currently following concussion protocols before returning to training, has now joined Silva on the injured list. The pair’s absence comes at a time when several other players are returning from injuries.

Christian Pulisic and N’Golo Kante appear to have accelerated their recoveries, with both players appearing to be back in team practice on the grass at Cobham. With the club desperate for wins, we could use all the help we can get.

Mateo Kovacic with the ball.

A photo of the American international and Mason Mount served as a reminder that he is back practising on Cobham’s grounds and be used against Leeds United. The USMNT international’s participation in first-team training on Monday comes as a massive boost.

Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic was not included in the starting line-up against Spurs but has since made a comeback from against Southampton. But, it doesn’t seem to be a cause for concern and he should be available.

The fact that Silva will be absent for several weeks will do tremendous damage to our defence, and the other defenders will need to step up and assert themselves. The return of Kante, Kovacic, and Pulisic will be fantastic news for the team and the supporters.

Pulisic has returned to training.

The French international will undoubtedly bolster our midfield and give it more speed, and Kovacic can be deployed in lieu of Enzo Fernandez.

We also hope that Pulisic, who has missed numerous games due to injury, will be prepared to make a telling difference upfront. A lack of goals is a major concern for our struggles this season.

More Chelsea News:

Mykhaylo Mudryk’s bad form could be offset if Pulisic performs well. Hopefully Captain America is the avenger that Potter needs to salvage the season.
