“A rollercoaster”- Impressive Chelsea centre-back sheds light on his Premier League loan spell

Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill keen to challenge for a Stamford Bridge defensive role

According to The Times (h/t The Metro), Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill is seeking more playtime at Brighton and Hove Albion before he returns to Stamford Bridge to stake his claim for a starting spot.

Colwill, who has played eight Premier League games, is showing off his massive potential at The Amex. He is aware of the jump-up in quality at Stamford Bridge and knows he has some big names to compete with for a spot. He goes on to call Thiago Silva “a joke” as he assessed the Blues’ centre-back options.

The 20-year-old will need to outperform players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, and Benoit Badiashile to earn a spot at Blues. Despite injuries impacting his opportunities, the youngster has shown enough to suggest he has a bright future ahead of him.

Colwill is considered highly regarded by the Blues and will bet on his hopes of returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer to compete for a spot in the starting lineup. The defender also stated in an interview that he is accustomed to competing for positions at Brighton and that if he returns to Chelsea, he will be ready to do so.

During his interview with The Times (h/t Metro), Colwill also discussed his time on loan at Brighton, as he said:

“My loan spell has been a rollercoaster.” “At the start, I wasn’t playing as much as I’d have liked.”

The fact that Silva is still a regular player for the club at the age of 38 says a lot about his commitment. Since joining Chelsea, he has developed into one of the top defenders in the Premier League. Colwill will do well to learn from the Brazilian and follow in his footsteps.

And the team will soon need to replace him because he is getting close to retirement age; but if Colwill keeps up his current form, he may be able to replace Silva for the upcoming campaign without the club having to spend any money on new centre backs.

The 20-year-old did, however, display tremendous potential, and we hope he continues in that vein as Chelsea may decide to bring him back for the next season.
