Chelsea confirm loaning out of Andrey Santos back to Vasco da Gama
According to Evening Standard, Chelsea confirm that they have sent young midfielder Andrey Santos on loan to Vasco da Gama till the end of this season in England.
In the early part of the January window, Chelsea spent £11m to sign Santos from Vasco. After signing the deal, the midfielder went back to represent the Brazil U20s in the U20 South American Championship. He captained his country and led them to victory.
But, just as when the 18-year-old was set to start his journey as a Chelsea player, his work permit application was rejected by one point.
A few days ago, it was reported that the Blues will send him back on loan to Vasco for the next three months before he takes part in the U20 World Cup in May. He could play nine games in the Brazil top flight till then, which could be enough for the club to again apply for the work permit in the summer.
It sounds like a good move for both parties because Santos would not have been wanting to play zero football from now till May before the World Cup due to that work permit issue.
For Chelsea, if they plan to use the youngster on a regular basis from next season onward, it is better to send him on loan somewhere till the time he is eligible to obtain the work permit.
The 18-year-old is a quality central midfielder who can impact games in both boxes. He is an excellent passer of the ball and has a goal in him from midfield. Off the ball, he works hard while physicality will improve the more he plays and the older he gets.
