Chelsea boss Graham Potter reveals plans for N’Golo Kante returning to full fitness
Chelsea boss Graham Potter reveals plans for assisting N’Golo Kante on his road to full fitness during the international break.
Kante, who injured himself playing against Tottenham Hotspur last August, experienced an injury setback that extended his recuperation time. Due to the injury sustained on the second weekend of the season, Kante has only appeared in two games this campaign.
The midfielder had finally returned to training and was in the matchday squad for Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Everton last Saturday, but did not play. It would appear that the club is in no rush to force him back before proving his full fitness.
After the international break is over, Potter has made a decision on how they will assist the 31-year-old in getting back to full fitness. According to reports, Potter wants to preserve indoor matches, where they help improve the French international’s physical development.
When asked if they will be playing internal or external opponents, (h/t Football.London), Potter responded:
“N’Golo’s due to carry on training Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with potentially a game to give him some minutes.”
“We’re still planning it, but I think it will probably be internal. That will be good.”
Given that club football is on a hiatus, this would be a brilliant idea so that those who haven’t been called up by their national teams can help themselves get back in shape in these training matches.
As Chelsea will have a busy April with numerous pivotal games and the Frenchman will be needed for those, so this would be a great way for him to get back to his best.
One of them would be a two-legged Champions League encounter against Real Madrid, and we would certainly need Kante for these two games as he will be pivotal in controlling our midfield and helping in shutting down Madrid’s midfield, which is Real’s key area.
