Speaking ahead of the Leicester City game, Chelsea boss Graham Potter admits that there has been a lift in the weight on his shoulders following wins in the last two games.
After the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago, Potter was under extreme pressure in his job. There was a report revealing that he has two games to save himself.
With how things have panned out, Chelsea have won the subsequent two games, the second one being special as they had to overturn a one-goal deficit to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie.
Here’s what Potter said when asked if the pressure is lifted following the good results (h/t Evening Standard):
“Has the weight been lifted off my shoulders? Yes, in some way. In some way but it is not something I get too bogged down with.
“It’s always nice to win. It is as simple as that. Everything boils down to that and everything feels like you are taking a step forward. I am not getting carried away. It is just two wins and we have to focus on Leicester. The boys have been in a good place, with good spirit.”
Potter is right that while getting those wins was important for the upliftment of the mood, there is no need to get carried away. We still have a lot of games to play in the league, and a quarter-final of the Champions League to look forward to.
So, the momentum achieved in the last two games should be kept hold of as long as they can. Facing Leicester away from home is always a tricky ask for any team. But, the Foxes have not been in great form and would be feeling the pressure ahead of the game.
Combine their jittery confidence with our buoyant self, there is a good chance for Potter’s men to make three wins in the space of eight days. What that will do is slowly bring the fans on board with what is happening on the pitch.
The bad news is that the manager will be without a key player Reece James for this game due to illness, while Raheem Sterling is nursing a tight hamstring. We hope that the latter is fit enough to start as he looked in great form against Dortmund and deservedly scored the goal.
