Cesare Casadei names Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the Chelsea player he most admires after training with him for the senior team. He has trained with the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Enzo Fernandez and Jorginho since joining us, which further underline Casadei’s praise for Loftus-Cheek.
Casadei joined the Blues from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window as part of the club’s ‘Vision 2030’ approach, which was developed by Todd Boehly.
Chelsea hoped to develop a challenging team to compete on all fronts in the near future before putting succession plans in place going forward. The former Nerazzurri starlet is a part of it.
After scoring four goals in eight games for the Blues’ U21 team, the 20-year-old was later loaned out to Championship team Reading. Moreover, the former Inter player has played in seven games for Reading and scored one goal.
Chelsea will be watching the teenager closely as they continue to attempt to strengthen their midfield in the summer transfer window. Nonetheless (h/t Evening Standard), Casadei discussed his move to Reading and also talked about how Loftus-Cheek made an impression on him.
“I feel good at Reading, as Paul Ince is helping me a lot. Inter? I’m now focused on following English football since I moved to Chelsea — I want to improve. Loftus-Cheek has impressed me in the training sessions. One of my models as a midfielder is [Federico] Valverde”.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has fared admirably this season, but he has also demonstrated his adaptability when asked to play in a new position, as evidenced by the few times he filled in for Reece James in the right-back area.
But his future at the club is also questionable because the Blues could want to sell him next year, and a few clubs have shown interest in buying the 23-year-old. His talents are frankly being wasted at Chelsea. He has what it takes to cut it at a fairly decent European club.
Loftus-Cheek has managed to make 16 league starts for the Blues this season but that has majorly been due to injury issues. Once we have a fit midfield and James is consistently available, it is very hard to see how the Englishman gets playing time.
In the meanwhile, Casadei will be trying to make his senior squad debut next season. And Chelsea will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on Casadei’s development at Reading, and if they are impressed by his showing, he will have a place at the club for the next year.
