According to the Metro, Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva has been replaced by Manchester United midfielder Casemiro as the new Brazil captain.
Since joining Man United, Casemiro has been excellent for the Red Devils. The 31-year-old has improved Erik ten Hag’s midfield and is now the captain of his country.
With Selecao’s exit from the 2022 World Cup, Silva, Brazil’s captain for more than a decade, was expected to retire from the national team. Nevertheless, he intends to continue playing for Brazil for a little while longer.
Silva hasn’t been called up for the international game, though, following a knee injury. The only game Brazil will play during this international break is an exhibition against Morocco on Saturday night.
A new manager for Brazil is expected to be chosen at the end of the current campaign, and Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of Real Madrid, is widely believed to be the front-runner.
Silva has returned to training and is now slowly making a full recovery from his injury, although it is unclear when he will be fully-fit. Given that Casemiro has been handed the armband only in his absence, there is little for the Chelsea ace to be worried about.
Chelsea will have a busy schedule after the international break as they attempt to close the gap and reach the top four. Furthermore, they will face Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The first leg will be played on April 12 and the second leg on April 18.
The armband could be returned to Silva upon his return because the former Paris Saint-Germain player has maintained consistency and done justice to the role.
We will need him to remain at his best until the conclusion of the season, so hopefully, he recovers quickly before the end of the international break.
