According to writer Ben Jacobs via The Express, Graham Potter has given Mykhaylo Mudryk special treatment since his January move to Chelsea.
Chelsea hijacked Arsenal target Mudryk to complete an £88 million deal for him in the winter window. But he has played in only seven appearances, three of which were from the bench.
The young player is yet to score in a Chelsea jersey, although he did contribute an assist in Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City on March 11. He appeared to have broken the duck but it was unfortunately deemed offside.
Jacobs also thinks Mudryk has received a lot of care at Chelsea since Potter is guiding the 22-year-old in his transition to the Premier League level. The Chelsea boss’s man-management abilities have in particular found praise.
The journalist (h/t Express), who was speaking to GiveMeSport, explained how Potter has been patient with Mudryk and said:
“What Potter has done very well is appreciate that Mudryk is a different breed of footballer to others at the club, and he’s played into his personality, which is ultimately very focused and unique.
“Mudryk is the type of player who wants to arrive early and leave late; he wants to do a lot of gym work; he wants to make instant impacts; and he sometimes runs before he can walk.
However, Mudryk has promise and Potter understands the need to ease him into the new surroundings and the expectations that come with it. The youngster is still learning and will get more comfortable in his new surroundings with time.
It’s encouraging to see that the 47-year-old is looking after the former Shakhtar Donetsk player. Hopefully, we will see the fruits of his labour sooner rather than later.
Given that the Blues now have an overwhelming number of players, proper maintenance should cause Potter a serious headache. The boss appears to be equal to the task and long may it continue.
