Ben Chilwell hails the impact of Raheem Sterling despite transfer rumours
Speaking to Parimatch (h/t Metro), Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has hailed the impact Raheem Sterling has had despite transfer speculations.
Sterling arrived at the club last summer from Manchester City for a fee of around £47.5m. In the last few weeks, it was revealed that Arsenal are monitoring the situation of the England international and could make a move for him in the coming summer.
Since then, the 28-year-old’s agent has reassured Chelsea fans that he is committed to the club. He showed that with an excellent performance and goal against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night.
Here’s what Chilwell said when asked about Sterling (h/t Metro):
“He’s a brilliant football player, so on the pitch we all kind of knew what we were getting. We knew he was going to impact our team with a lot of goalscoring opportunities, with goals and assists.
“But of course, me and the boys who play at England know that in the changing room and around the training ground, he has a big impact. He’s brought a lot of experience, which he’s using to help people across the team, especially the younger players.”
Sterling has been one of the best forwards in the side since returning from his hamstring injury. He played well against Leeds United and deserved the goal against Dortmund.
Although he is only 28 and has a few years left to go at the elite level, the England international seems to have the experience of delivering when things matter more. Hence, it was not surprising to see him do well against Dortmund when the team needed him and the other forwards to deliver.
Chelsea spent big money to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January. While, the Ukrainian plays in the same position as Sterling likes to operate – left wing, the latter can be a great option in other attacking positions as well.

We have seen the former City man playing well as a false nine or on the right wing. He has pace, finishing capability and great decision-making nous in the final third. It would be foolish if the club is even thinking of selling him in the summer. We could do with an experienced like him in the squad when things hopefully look settled next season.
