Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was seen celebrating with his Barcelona teammates after the club’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the El Clasico last weekend.
The Gabonese international still has great relations with his former Barcelona teammates and manager Xavi Hernandez. It is also said that the Spanish club is now prepared to make a reasonable offer, (h/t Mundo Deportivo), to end his disastrous Chelsea tenure.
As they manage an enduring financial meltdown, Barcelona are considering re-signing the 33-year-old striker for free and at a lower salary. If anything, it should be a win-win for both parties, giving the Catalans a proven player and Aubameyang another shot at a top European club.
The Chelsea man rejected a move to Los Angeles FC during the winter transfer window since he wants to join another European team. With his time at Stamford Bridge all but done, the latest developments are a shot in the arm.
The striker feels driven out of Stamford Bridge since his time at Chelsea hasn’t been good and he’s only featured in seven minutes of game time after the January transfer window closed. Furthermore, it appears that Potter has no plans to play the 33-year-old because he has already preferred Kai Havertz and is currently experimenting with Joao Felix and Mykhaylo Mudryk in the central positions.
Once the international break is over, they will face challenging opponents as seven of their last 11 league games will be against teams higher up in the standings. Drawing defending champions Real Madrid in the Champions League has not made life any easier either.
Aubameyang should leave Chelsea after this season since he has become a liability after joining the team. Also, despite being a Chelsea player, he was seen celebrating with former Barcelona teammates after their victory over Real Madrid, a hint that his heart could lie elsewhere.
The Blues should get rid of him because he had a negligible impression on the pitch and because oftentimes veteran players’ behaviour can affect younger players’ attitudes in the dressing room.
However, releasing him for free will result in a loss of £10.3 million, and we hope Chelsea sets a reasonable asking price for him so the club can make just a small profit from his departure. It remains to be seen, though, if we can make money off of his trade.
