Chelsea target Amadou Onana said to be interested in exploring alternatives

Amadou Onana, who only joined the Toffees in the summer of 2022, surfaced as a potential option for Chelsea in the January transfer window. However, despite significant interest, a deal was never close to being completed.

Two months after the midseason window opened, it is believed that Onana is still a possibility for Chelsea as they aim to strengthen their team even more over the summer.

Even though the Belgian still has more than four years left on his Goodison Park deal, if Everton gets demoted this year, he will almost certainly be moved.

Chelsea interested in signing Everton midfielder Onana.

Despite Sean Dyche’s recent hiring giving them a mini-revival, the Toffees are now in 18th place in the Premier League table.

Suppose Everton is genuinely relegated to the Championship. In that case, a number of important players could go, including Onana, whose strong debut season in the top division has drawn the attention of senior authorities at Chelsea Bridge.

Given that Onana has only been a Merseyside club player for less than a season, it seems logical that Everton would not want to move him. When speaking to SoFoot (h/t Football.London), the midfielder made it very obvious that he wants to fight for major teams. He said:

“I see myself having had a lot of life experiences, which will have made me learn a lot about human beings in general, as well as about myself. I see myself, God willing, in one of the biggest clubs recognised worldwide.”

Given his age and potential to replace N’Golo Kante, who has been plagued by injuries this season, Onana is a midfielder who will be a fantastic addition to Chelsea. And if Toffees are demoted at the conclusion of the season, he could be easy to sign.

And his role is similar to Kante’s, where he is tasked with the defensive side of things in midfield. He usually plays as a pivot, a single pivot, or in a two-man midfield.

However, his playmaking abilities may be lacking, but he can grow into a top midfielder. Moreover, he can be targeted to play in a defensive role rather than one where he is required to contribute up front.
