As quoted by Daily Mail, AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, who has been linked with Chelsea for some time, talked about the toughness of the Serie A and his future.
Leao has been consistently linked with Chelsea throughout the course of this season. There are other top-flight clubs in his pursuit, but Chelsea’s name has come up more often than not.
The Portugal international’s contract at Milan currently expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). There are indications that he may sign a new deal, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Here’s what he said when asked about the Serie A, the prospect of his future and more (h/t Daily Mail):
“Serie A is very easy, yes it seems [joking]… Before reaching Serie A I was in France, where the first year was difficult. They came in hard. But when you’re skilled, when you’re faster, you can create and make a difference. The second year was much better and I grew a lot. I have to show the world what I can do on and off the pitch.
“I don’t like the weather there. I went shopping the first time I went to London.”
Well, the winger is not wrong about the weather being bad in London. In fact, the weather is hardly a matter of solace for people all over the United Kingdom.
Leao has been one of the consistent players in the Italian league for the past 18 months or so. After playing a key part in helping Milan win the Scudetto last season, the 23-year-old has continued in the same vein this time around.
He has nine goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions. We can once expect him to cross the 10-mark in goals and assists.
Now, even though Chelsea are linked with him, do the Blues need him after spending £88.5m on Mykhaylo Mudryk, a player who operates in the same position as Leao? One would doubt so. Moreover, Christopher Nkunku is arriving in the summer as well. He is someone who can play the support striker role (Leao’s second-favoured position).
For now, the club should focus on spending big money to sign a top-quality striker. They need someone who can score 25+ goals a season and be a menace to the opposition centre-backs.
