Report: Chelsea in advanced talks to extend Stamford Bridge trio’s contracts

Chelsea seeking to activate contract extensions of three first-team stars

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea are in advanced talks to renew the contract of Thiago Silva, but there are doubts regarding the extension of Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante.

Silva, currently 38 years old, is expected to sign a one-year extension with Chelsea, keeping him at the club until 2024. His current contract is due to expire in the coming summer (Transfermarkt).

Mount, on the other hand, has his contract expiring in 2024 (Transfermarkt). There have been no advancements on his extension as he wants to be paid at par with fellow top players at the club. The 24-year-old has the right to ask that because he was the club’s best player in the last two seasons.

The report says that big English clubs would be circling around the idea of signing Mount, should Chelsea struggle to extend his contract by the summer. A few days ago, the Guardian reported that Liverpool are seriously considering the possibility of signing the player.

Midfield legend Kante has his contract expiring at the end of this season (Transfermarkt). The Blues have offered him a two-year deal with an option for the third. The Frenchman, 31, is sceptical of that and wants a three-year deal upfront.

While it is good news to see that Silva is going to stay at the club, it is a bit concerning that Mount and Kante are nowhere clear to extend their stays.

Despite the arrival of many players in the last two transfer windows, the latter have been very good performers for Chelsea over a considerable period. Granted that Kante has had injury issues this season, his impact on the team in the last four-five years cannot be understated.

More Chelsea News:

Mount has produced numbers and performances of the highest level in the last 24 months. His current form is not good, but that should not mean a denial of the pay at par with the big earners at the club. Let’s hope the issues around contracts get resolved soon.
