According to Cesar Luis Merlo TyC Sports (h/t Daily Mail), new Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez is available to make his club debut against Fulham after the paperwork has been completed.
The Argentina midfielder was signed on the final hours of the Tuesday deadline day. Due to the nature of the deal, it was feared that the Fulham game might come too early for him. Manager Graham Potter was sceptical about it as well when speaking to the media.
But, it is confirmed that Fernandez’s paperwork is signed and sealed, meaning he is eligible to play some part in Chelsea’s game on Friday night at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues broke the British transfer record to sign the 21-year-old from Benfica. He has signed a contract until the summer of 2031.
It would be interesting to see how Potter plays this out. How much the player has trained with the squad since arriving in London on Wednesday, remains to be seen.
Keeping that in mind and knowing that the rest of the squad had a two-week break between games to train and understand the requirements of the coach, it is hard to see how Fernandez will start against Fulham. Maybe a cameo role from the bench is what he could resort to.
Such is the quality of the World Cup winner that he may not need a lot of minutes to showcase his style and authority in the game. Chelsea fans at the Bridge would be excited to have a first glance at him.
This is a big game for us after having made significant improvements in the previous game against Liverpool two weeks back. With the transfer window, the focus is on the coach and the players to deliver an excellent second half of this season. It all starts against Fulham, a team who beat them a few weeks ago.
