Chelsea’s stance on Graham Potter after a string of poor results

Despite severe pressure Chelsea see Graham Potter as their long-term manager

Chelsea have no intention of sacking Graham Potter despite the club’s poor record in the league. The 1-1 draw against West Ham United further built pressure on Potter, but the club is delighted with his work.

As the news emerges from Athletic (subscription required) (h/t Express.UK), Todd Boehly will not sack Potter even if Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The board is of the opinion that the former manager of Brighton & Hove Albion will need some time to bring out the best in the arrivals from the January transfer window.

Boehly believes Potter is the right manager for the Blues and that they will be patient with him, allowing him to properly implement his system.

Chelsea aims to build from the ground, so they see him as a long-term manager at the club and support his ambitions for the future.

Potter, who took over for Thomas Tuchel, was expected to succeed given his stellar tenure at Brighton, but after a brief streak of success, Chelsea went on a winless skid, winning only three of their next 13 games.

Moreover, they are stuck in ninth place, 10 points below fourth-placed Newcastle United, Additionally, they are eliminated from domestic competition, and Champions League success looks improbable given their performance.

It’s acceptable if we don’t win any trophies this year, but we need to get things moving. It’s encouraging that Boehly has faith in the 47-year-olds since he understands that our team is young and needs careful direction.

Because making the wrong choice might occasionally alter players’ attitudes, it might be a good idea to trust Potter to guide youngsters.

Although it is understandable from the perspective of the supporters that they demand quick results, not every manager possesses the charisma necessary to achieve them. Mikel Arteta took this Arsenal team two years to become a title contender.

Guardiola took over Manchester City in 2016, and the club were patient and are now reaping the benefits and the same with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Both patience and hope have the potential to either let us down or yield good results, but for now, Potter’s future at Chelsea is safe.
