William Gallas reckons Mykhaylo Mudryk should have joined Arsenal and could soon regret his decision to join Chelsea last month.
Despite the fact that rival Arsenal were closer to acquiring Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk and the youngster even agreed on a deal to join Arsenal, Chelsea beat the Gunners for his services by paying a cost of 88 million pounds for his services.
As the former Arsenal Gunners speculate about his future at Chelsea, this has undoubtedly wounded a lot of Gunners supporters and former players.
Chelsea faces a Champions League conundrum as the Blues strive to finish in the top four in the Premier League in order to earn a Champions League spot.
And in a conversation with Genting Casino (via the Evening Standard), Gallas felt that Mudryk would soon come to repent his choice, saying:
“Mudryk may have made a mistake, but he had the opportunity to play for Arsenal. The way Arsenal play, he would have fit into that squad, and at the end of the season, he may regret it.” What if Chelsea does not qualify for the Champions League?
“Arsenal may be the champions in the end. At the end of the season, maybe he will regret it. It could have been an opportunity for him to play well and make the Champions League next season.”
As a former player for Chelsea and Arsenal, Gallas’ comments for the young player don’t seem reassuring because he still has a full playing career ahead of him.
In addition, even if Chelsea don’t make it to the Champions League spot next season, we have players that are dedicated to the squad, have a future here, and can aid in making the team competitive. A team can play in the Champions League for one season and then miss out for the next several years.
What if Arsenal win the title this year and then don’t play in UCL for the next few years? These are things that are futile to discuss right now. Mudryk is young and isn’t in danger of missing out on the biggest competitions here at SW6.
Moreover, the youngster competes for a team that has won the Champions League twice. Every club experiences periods of uncertainty, and Chelsea are presently going through one of those, but we will eventually recover and revitalise ourselves.
And with Mudryk by our side, we can rely on him and believe that he will succeed at Chelsea. He will be a valuable member of the team and hopefully, doesn’t regret joining us as well.
Arsenal currently have Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli as sure-shot starters while we seem to have a plan in place for the Ukraine international. Moreover, he should remember that the Gunners did not put the required money on the table when we did come to the table.
