What Lionel Messi has said about Chelsea new boy Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez become the most expensive British signing after his move to Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez, 22, was in the spotlight with Lionel Messi at the 2022 World Cup as he was a fundamental player in Argentina’s success.

The fact that one of the best players, Messi, lauded Fernandez’s performance for Argentina will excite many Chelsea supporters since it shows how highly the former Benfica star is regarded.

Although Fernandez wasn’t seen as a key member of Argentina’s World Cup squad. However, his start in the team’s 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in the tournament’s opening match made him a consistent starter. From that point on, he played in every match and even managed to score and assist a goal in the tournament.

Lionel Messi was full of praise for Enzo Fernandez.

The 22-year-old laid a marker with his performance and even earned Young Player of The Tournament. (h/t Mirror.UK), The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner praised Fernandez’s performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after the 2-0 win against Mexico in the group stage and stated:

“I’m not surprised by Enzo. I know him, and I see him train every day. He deserves [the acclaim] because he’s a spectacular player.

Despite the fact that things appeared sketchy at the very end, Chelsea were successful in acquiring the player. His £106.8 million transfer to Chelsea also made him the most expensive acquisition in British transfer history.

Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United were all interested in signing Fernandez when his pursuit began in January. While Chelsea’s approach was twice rejected by Benfica, and ultimately they had to meet his release clause, Liverpool came very close, but it never transpired.

Chelsea close in on Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

As the most costly addition, the former River Plate player has been given the number 5. He will undoubtedly face pressure, but we should show patience with him as he is still young and has plenty to offer the Blues.

His background will undoubtedly help us dominate the midfield, and he could fill in Jorginho’s shoes, who left for Arsenal. The World Cup winner might make his club debut against Fulham, giving the supporters the chance to see the player they have been waiting for.
