Transfer News: Chelsea keen to permanently sign expendable Juventus star

Juventus have decided to sell Denis Zakaria in the summer with Chelsea keen to sign him

According to Evening Standard, Italian giants Juventus have decided to sell Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria, who is currently on loan at Chelsea.

Zakaria, who signed for Chelsea on a season-long loan on the deadline day of last summer window, was out injured for a month. He is back to full fitness though and may play some part against Southampton at the weekend.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder started his life as a Chelsea player slowly but got better as the season went on. And when he was starting to look in games after the World Cup, he picked up an injury.

The Blues have an option in the 26-year-old’s loan deal to sign him for £27m in the coming summer. They have neither ruled out nor confirmed the prospects of making the move permanent.

Chelsea broke the British transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez in January. They sold Jorginho to Arsenal at the same time. They are in the race for Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in the summer.

It could be up to the manager Graham Potter to decide whether he wants to keep Zakaria beyond this season. If the Swiss international continues his good form upon his return to the team, Potter may not have any other option.

The 26-year-old has qualities that can be harnessed to a good extent here. He can play as a defensive midfielder and dominate games from the quarterback position. He can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder and impact the game between both boxes.

More Chelsea News:

If the Blues are not able to get Rice or Bellingham, which is going to be tough, keeping hold of Zakaria by paying the transfer fee of £27m would be good business. Even if we get one of the aforementioned English midfielders, the Swiss international should remain at Stamford Bridge.
