Former Chelsea defender responds to a rumour on his Instagram page after finding that he played a part in Graham Potter’s hiring from Brighton Hove & Albion.
Despite being a huge admirer of the boss during his time at Brighton, the player quickly denied on social media that he had any influence over Potter’s selection as Chelsea’s new manager.
A follower questioned Terry on Instagram about whether he was involved in Chelsea’s hiring of the former Swansea manager.
Despite having praised Potter during his days at Brighton, (h/t Express.UK), Terry was eager to refute any notion, saying:
“Absolutely not.”
“I tweeted that I loved watching Brighton play and his style of play. I have nothing to do with the first team. I’m working with the [under] 18s and 21s and love my role.”
Thomas Tuchel was dismissed by Chelsea due to the team’s poor performance, and the Blues found Potter to be the ideal replacement.
However, after winning a few games, Chelsea relapsed into a slump, and their chances of reaching the Champions League next season look dim now. The club has only two victories in the previous ten Premier League games under him.
They have only gained six points in their previous five games, placing them ninth in the standings, 10 points behind fourth-place Newcastle United. Additionally, despite Todd Boehly’s significant investment, Potter has yet to develop a winning formula for Chelsea, and the pressure is growing on him to turn the situation around.
And the questions have been thrown at him if he is the right man to lead the Blues to any trophy. The club is already out of two domestic cups, and the Premier League remains far away, while Chelsea is still in contention for the Champions League.
