According to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini (h/t Football.London), Inter Milan are interested in signing young Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in the coming summer transfer window.
One of Inter’s experienced defenders and captain Milan Skriniar is set to leave the club in the summer. The Slovakia international has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Paris-Saint Germain.
Hence, the Serie A giants are looking for an able replacement for him in that department. Chalobah is one of the top names on their list. They can offer Denzel Dumfries in the player-swap deal, but Chelsea’s business to sign Malo Gusto must have cooled their interest in the Dutch international.
We have a boyhood Chelsea defender doing well in the Italian league in the recent past. Fikayo Tomori was struggling to get regular game time here and opted to move to AC Milan. He has done extremely well there and won the Scudetto last season too.
With Chelsea signing Benoit Badiashile, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in the last two transfer windows and the chances are that Thiago Silva will extend his stay by a year, Chalobah’s game time at Stamford Bridge does seem low for the foreseeable future.
The 23-year-old’s contract lasts until the summer of 2028 though (Transfermarkt), having signed an extension back in November of last year.
So, will Chelsea sanction a sale of him months after offering him a long-term contract? Highly doubt so. But, if the player sees an opportunity of getting more game time elsewhere, he may want to push for a move.
Hence, it would be sensible for the club to allow him to decide what his future should shape like. Graham Potter has other good options for that position anyway.
