Richard Keys urges Chelsea to replace Graham Potter with Jose Mourinho
Speaking with beIN SPORTS as quoted by Metro, Richard Keys has urged Chelsea to sack their current manager, Graham Potter, and bring back former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
Keys believes that Potter has “failed miserably” at the club, with Chelsea winning just two games out of their last 14 in all competitions. Many Chelsea fans would welcome the return of Mourinho, who led the club to three Premier League titles in two spells at Stamford Bridge.
However, the question remains whether the former Chelsea, Tottenham and current Roma boss is the right man to lead us forward. Graham Potter may be struggling at Chelsea, but he is a talented manager who has achieved success at his previous club, Brighton & Hove Albion.
He has been in the job for just a few months and needs time to implement his ideas and strategies. Chelsea are a team in transition, with a number of new players arriving in the summer transfer window. It takes time for a team to gel and find their rhythm, especially when there are so many changes.
It’s true that Chelsea’s recent form has been poor, but sacking the manager is not always the solution. Chelsea have been through a revolving door of managers in recent years, and it has not always brought them success.
Speaking about the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge, here is what Keys had to say and his comments were rather interesting
“Jose Mourinho is a former Chelsea manager who’s enormously popular with the crowd. The experiment with Graham Potter has failed miserably so that’s got to change. Boehly needs a get out of jail free card and that’s Jose Mourinho”
This Chelsea squad is full of talent, and given time, they can achieve great things. Bringing back Mourinho may provide a short-term boost, but it is unlikely to bring long-term success. Mourinho is known for his defensive style of play, and this may not suit the attacking style of football that Chelsea fans have come to expect.
Furthermore, Mourinho’s relationship with Chelsea fans soured towards the end of his second spell at the club. His tendency to publicly criticise players and his controversial comments did not endear him to the fans.

While Richard Keys’ suggestion of bringing back Jose Mourinho may be popular with some Chelsea fans, it may not be the best long-term solution. Persisting with Potter would make more sense right now.
