Gary Neville praised Chelsea star Thiago Silva for the performance in his side’s 0-0 tie with Fulham and reckons that since joining the team, he has been a reliable defender for the Blues.
The Brazilian moved to Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, and many questioned if he would still be able to perform at the highest level. However, the 38-year-old has since established himself as the Blues’ go-to centre-back and was crucial to Chelsea’s Champions League victory in 2020–21.
The former PSG player has played in 105 games for Chelsea and has contributed five goals and five assists. Silva has been a lone voice of hope in a season where the Blues are rebuilding.
Silva has stayed in position in the right area despite multiple rotations on the left side of the defence with Benoit Badiashile, Kalidou Koulibal, and Marc Cucurella all getting their chances.
The Blues faithful were excited to see Mykhaylo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez against Fulham, but the duo made little of an impression. Instead, Silva continued to impress and also marshalled Badiashile well.
His experience is clearly helping the youngster who is starting to look increasingly comfortable in the Blues’ rearguard. Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville expressed his admiration for Silva on Sky Sports (via @FootballDaily on Twitter)
“I thought Thiago Silva was sensational.” He impresses me every time I see him. He’s a world-class player. He’s so important to them. He has to hold somehow that dressing room together.”
Everything Neville stated is accurate and we are pretty glad that Silva is a Chelsea player who has always exhibited true leadership and aided us in many circumstances.
We’ve appeared sloppy at the back, which has disturbed the team’s performance. Other defenders haven’t been able to support Silva, but yesterday’s game saw Badiashile combining well with Silva, giving us hope.
We would really struggle to find a successor for him because he is nearing the end of his career and we would suffer greatly without him. But until then, we should make use of his time at Chelsea since he has plenty to offer the team.
